Staring into the Hurricane Eye of Chaos

The Universe is layer upon layer of ineffable chaos systems -the slowly exploding interstellar particulate of the Unicorn Nebula, the elegant dance of the planets falling through the spiral void around our yellow star, the earth-dwarfing storm cells of Jupiter, the wild rhythm of ripples from myriad raindrops peppering a pond or a puddle on the street where you live.

We humans tend to cobble together increasingly complex systems, attempting to organize and assert control over that which is fundamentally uncontrollable.

It works, sometimes, for a while. Then, things break down.

It’s okay.

In moments like these, our attempts at control can add to the churn as much as they might calm it.

It’s okay.

Intelligence, intention, resilience, tenacity, strength, wisdom, resourcefulness are all tremendous tools, but merely facets of the one thing that ultimately makes the difference in how your life goes in times when chaos chews through the wires or rips off the roof: Your ability to maintain, to manage your sense of Self in the endless overwhelming cascade of present moments.

To weather the shadow of your fear, to permit it to pass over you and through you. To acknowledge and process your anxiety, your hurt, loss, anger, confusion. To permit them all to pass over. To loosen your grip and say ‘yes’ to the ride. To find yourself – cringing, crying, cackling – inside it again and again. To let everything flow through and dissipate.

It’s okay.

When the hurricane eye of chaos stares into your soul, stare right back into it. Take the time to soak up its fathomless beauty. It is the womb that built and birthed you. It is the stomach that will recycle your bones when they are dust once again.

Remember, you and your stories are actually a part of it, made from all the same stuff. You are only looking at yourself looking at yourself looking at yourself...

Today you are its memory, its chronicler. You are its voice, its giver of names.

Say to it, “It’s okay. I am here. I see you.”

It’s okay. I am here. I see you.

It’s okay. I am here. I see you.
