Where Will You Find the Energy?
A simple definition of Entropy is the measure of energy in a system that is unavailable to do useful work. Think of it as energy lost or wasted due to disorder, friction, general breakdown.
Your life is a system. Your mind is a system.
There are jumbled bits inside all of us. Energy that could drive our lives, our hopes, dreams, that could structure our future as purposefully perfect, is being lost right now, inside each of us. Somewhere there is a rub –a spot of friction, where something that might move us forward is instead dragging, creating heat and breakdown.
Today look for entropy in your life. Where are the ways you are wasting your thoughts, your wishes, your time, just dealing with the burn of that rub?
There may be a lot. You may notice it everywhere. The clutter in kitchen sink, the shouting with your spouse, the sadness that just keeps riding on your shoulder everywhere you go. There might be so much energy loss that it leaves you exhausted every day, with just enough motive force to simply drag your ass from bed in the morning to bed at night.
Do you see it? Do you see places where the energy just goes out and disappears?
Believe it or not, this is good news. Because the truth is your life is filled with energy. Recognizing where entropy is the first step in reducing it. And when you do, that energy that was lost to drag, to friction, becomes available.
Don’t worry about how much there is. THAT feeling, concern, is a kind of entropy, too. Just take a deep breath, notice one thing, and fix it. Fold your laundry. Wash a dish. Call your friend. Brush your teeth. Go to bed on time.
Play a game where you let that energy build up a bit. Let it lift your head up. Let it soak in, so that you have everything you need to stand up and be powerful in this world that would prefer you bleed it away.
The world is scared of you standing up like that. This is because that is exactly what the world needs. Especially from you.
