There Is a Yes
there is a
Yes
dividing inside you right now
size of a peanut
maybe smaller
little bundle of nerves
building itself a possibility
that might be shouted down
by vinyl recliner geniuses
shredded by casually ravenous trolls
or collaterally crushed underfoot
by stumbling star-eyed shamans or stoned teenagers
each of these scenes
alongside your most heart-written wishes
stray foolish dreams
and the ten million mundane moments
each a grain of sand
meandering along the liminal expanse
on an unfathomable sea
just gestating in the wet there
waiting for you
to notice it does not belong to you
to relax into that ass-over-teakettle turn in your gut
to toggle from
fear the world will change it
to fierceness that it will change the world
there is a
Yes
waiting for you to dilate
to widen beyond what you believe you can
far enough out from comfort
that you cannot see the safety of shore anymore
to let it through and out
and be lifted from the water
caterwauling
to rest its fresh fragile little head
on your breast
and request
you open
even wider
